Reading - We are currently using Scope Scholastic which provides an online reading platform as well as paper copies of its materials. It provides current as well as high interest literature. A weekly reader response selection test is one component of the Scope reading program. In addition to the Scope, we will be reading various trade books in both large and small group settings. Choice Reading Time (C.R.T.) gives students the opportunity to choose books at their own interest level. Students should try to read thirty minutes each night in addition to the time set aside during the school day. Please encourage your student to read on a daily basis.

Language Arts – The students complete a weekly packet emphasizing a specific language/grammar skill. They then put those learned skills to good use as they practice narrative, descriptive, persuasive and informational writing.

Spelling - Students are taught different word lists ie: difficult spellings, multi syllabic words, prefixes, suffixes etc. and practice them during classroom time.

Math - We will be using a math series this year called College Prepatory Mathematics (C.P.M.). This series emphasizes working together in groups on math problems. Students will learn to think in different ways. They will compare quantities, visualize ideas, describe and explain their thinking, look for multiple ways of doing problems and seeing ideas, and make sense of ideas and concepts. Whole numbers, algebra, statistics, geometry, decimals, fractions, ratio and proportion are our main focus.

MN History - Our focus is on Minnesota history, geography, and government for the entire year. During the fourth quarter we work on a Minnesota trip using Google Slides. We may go on a field trip to the state capitol which helps culminates our study.
