What’s Happening in our Classroom?

In math this month, we will be working on recognizing numbers as a group of 5 and extra ones, number partners and patterns.  The first unit includes repeating patterns as well as growing and shrinking patterns. 

 

In science, we are comparing and contrasting animals and plants, what scientist do and tools they use and if things are living or non-living.

 

In reading, students are working on the short a sound.  They have been working on handwriting and the difference between vowels and consonants and lower- and upper-case letters.

 

For health this month, we will be talking about fire safety.

 

Halloween Party

Just a reminder we don’t wear costumes in first grade.  We wear orange and black instead.   The party starts at 1:45 and goes to the end of the day.  

 

Library

Our library day for book check out is Thursday.

 

Conferences

Fall conferences are coming up on Monday and Tuesday evenings, October 16 & 17 from 3:30-7:00 We will be using Sign-Up Genius again for fall conferences. 

 

 

 

Skate Day

October 16 is our first skate day in phy ed from 12-12:50. If you want to volunteer at that time, they are always looking for helpers.  Your child is welcome to bring in their own roller blades and helmet.
