Mr. Matejka's Mailbag

Dear Parents,

Two quarters down and two to go, the past two quarters have really gone by fast. This quarter we will be working on upper case cursive letters, getting ready for our MCA tests in reading and math,  health and safety, government/community, and higher level math concepts.  The students have been trying very hard this year.  I am very excited to see them taking on the responsibility of being a good student.
The following paragraphs are small reminders of our everyday operations here in class.

Book Orders:
I will be sending home a book order form from Scholastic Book Club on a monthly basis. Ordering books can add books to your personal library, be used for student reading minutes, be used as a book for AR Time (silent reading time), and help purchase books for our classroom. You are not obligated to order at anytime but if you choose to order please send a check rather than cash. Make checks payable to “Scholastic Book Club”. Please place the check and the order form, with you child's name clearly marked, in an envelope. The date that the order is due is written on the back of the order form. If more than one book order is sent home, you still only need to write one check to “Scholastic Book Club".  You can also order online by following the directions on the book order itself.

Snacks:
Just a reminder that each day your child will need to bring in a healthy snack of his or her liking.

Report Cards:
Report cards have now gone out.  If you have any questions, please give me an e-mail or call.

Reading Minutes:
Just a reminder that your child should be reading thirty minutes a day and recording the minutes he or she reads on the reading slip. Every Monday your child should bring back a signed reading slip so individual results can be graphed; a new reading slip for the next week will be handed out at this time.

Assignment Notebooks:
Please help your child to remember to bring his/her assignment notebook back to school signed everyday. The assignment notebook lists what needs to be done that night for school the next day. Please take time to look at your child’s assignment notebook every night.

Take-Home Folder:
The take home folder provides your child a place to store papers that need to go home or to school. I use this folder to send home notes, homework, and letters and papers from the office. Just like the assignment notebook, this folder should be checked and cleaned out every night and then sent back to school every morning.

Bus/Walking/Pick Up:
If your son or daughter is going to be doing something different after school (example: _____ will be getting picked up today rather than taking the bus.), please send a note that day or a weekly schedule with your child. I want to ensure your child is going to the correct place after school.

Thank you for your help. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at school (507-545-2632) or e-mail me at .

Sincerely,
              Mr. Matejka
